RECORDS tumbled at a sun-kissed Prescott Hill Climb near Cheltenham over the weekend, where Llangollen driver Robert Kenrick yet again broke the 1100cc class record in his GWR Raptor to move to the top of the points table in the Midland Hill Climb Championship.

Saturday was a great day for Somerset racing car constructor Bill Chaplin who saw young driver Matthew Ryder of Cirencester set the best time of the day with his all new Empire Evo racing car, together with a new class record set by Steve Morgan of Shropshire, also in Empire Evo, competing in the Midland Speed Championship..

The Porsche Club National Hillclimb Championship saw a new record set by Coleford driver Paul Howells with his 911 RSR, while David Dyson won the Porsche Club Speed Championship class in his Porsche 911 GT3 with Michael Brown taking second place in his 944, with Andy Fagan coming third in his Porsche Boxster.

The Midland Automobile Club Sunrise Championship produced a win for Tom Brown in a Mallock, with Richard Churchley taking second place, also in a Mallock, while Steve Barnard came third in his Audi TT Vauxhall.

Adding a different dimension to proceedings was a class for rally cars, with Stephen Chamberlain taking top spot in his Hyundai Accent WRC, with Tony Shields coming second in his Opel Astra and Jason Leply third in his Ford Escort RS2000.

The motorcycle classes saw wins for Adam Bentley, Simon Wilson, Patrick Dolan, Guy Ursell and Andy Greenhouse, with Simon and Jayne Foster taking the sidecar class.

Paul Morcom in a Merlyn FF won the BOC Members Racing Car class and Steven Potter in an OMS 2000M won the HSA Speed Championship class.

Sunday welcomed B Licence holders taking part in the New Barn Land Rover Specialists Championship with David Roberts claiming top place in his Triumph TR4A, with Matthew Gregory second in his Porsche 968s and Yvette Stader third in her Austin A35.

New Midlands Championship leader Robert Kenrick, who set the best time of the day in his GWR Raptor, said: “We have had some technical issues with the car this weekend but I was thrilled to have one really good run to beat the class record and set the fastest time of the day, but thanks must go to the marshals and officials who braved the heat to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all those taking part.”
