LAST weekend was a very exciting time for Stinchcombe Stragglers Cricket Club with the club hosting the Gloucestershire CCC Disability Meteors Team and the Stragglers Women’s team playing their first softball tournament away at Chippenham.

The Meteors team played a team from BBO (Bucks, Berks and Oxfordshire), although the Meteors were defeated the game was played in good spirits, the final score was 387 to BBO and 249 for the Meteors.

The Meteors Super Nines development squad provides young people with either learning or physical disabilities a fantastic opportunity to be involved in and play cricket for the county and gives them the opportunity to progress to the Gloucestershire Javelins who play in the Super Nines ECB National League.

The development squad game is played in a pairs format and each pair would normally play four or five overs, if one of the pair is deemed to be out they carry on playing to complete the overs but five points are deducted for each wicket lost.

This format is ideal for development cricket as it gives all players the chance to bat, bowl and field.

The Gloucestershire CCC Disability teams are always looking for new players so if you or anyone you know would be interested please contact Stinchcombe Cricket Club for details.

Pat Young, the Stragglers chairman, said: "It is fantastic for us to host the Meteors and we really hope to be able to do this on a regular basis over the coming seasons and the women's team is another positive addition to the club".
