KINGSWOOD'S final game in the Pratt 20/20 Cup brought a much needed victory over Tortworth.
With a win at North Nibley in the first game, Kingswood had high hopes but had progressively greater defeats in the next three.
Far from winning the Cup, they entered the last round in bottom place.
Thankfully, the team caught Tortworth in a subdued mood, batting at under four an over until a fighting 52 (rtd), half the side`s runs, raised the rate to five.
Credit, too, must go to Kingswood`s bowlers. Iain Green, Guy Lendon , Henry and Angus McCubbin kept the brakes on with just 25 runs off their collective 12 overs, Henry, Vince Taylor and Jake McNally chipped in a wicket apiece and Ben Foxwell 3-17.
This tight bowling plus student Layton Wood`s patrol of the outfield like a swooping buzzard limited Tortworth to 99-6.
At first, Ben Foxwell (45) and Kevin Morgan (19) seemed to be making light work of it but two wickets to Mike Dereham, one each to Jim Fannon and Ben Spiers plus a run out caused a wobble until Henry and Guy took Kingswood home by five wickets.
Meanwhile, Oldbury-on-Severn`s 125-4 beat Wickwar`s 124-4, meaning top place for the former and bottom for the latter.
The other game between Hillesley and North Nibley was not played as North Nibley did not raise a side because of preparations for its Festival.
No plans have been announced for a re-arranged game. Thus, so far, Hillesley has been awarded the game and points. If the game is played, the result will not effect the top or bottom two places in the six team tournament.
Congratulations to the all Severnside players of Oldbury
