WEEK NINE of the Slimbridge Skittles League saw Snorts FC move to top spot after a 40-pin victory over Alley Gators.

Mark Tocknell hit a 12-spare as they opened up a 12-pin lead.

Alley Gators hit back in the next leg before the Snorts FC took the next four legs with Neil Tocknell hitting a 12-spare in the fifth leg and Gareth Markey; who scored 70, hitting a 13-spare in the following leg.

The Alley Gators took the seventh leg but were unable to take any spare chances in the first half they trailed by 38-pins.

The second half was closer. Geoff Williams; who scored 61, hit a 13-spare in the second leg for the Alley Gators to level the scores.

Tying the third leg, Snorts FC took a two-pin lead in the fourth before Gill Meadows hit a 13-spare in the fifth leg as the Alley Gators took a three-pin advantage.

Richard Fry hit an 11-spare in the seventh leg to give the winners a six-pin advantage which they maintained to take the half by two pins.

The Geriatrics moved into second after a convincing 25-pin victory over Cambridge Crew. They had a 12-pin advantage before Rob Wychard hit an 11-spare in his total of 60 to threaten a comeback from Crew.

In the final leg, Len Holder, who scored 65 for the Geriatrics, hit a 13-spare to take the half by 10-pins.

Slimbridge enjoyed a two-pin victory over Shake Hands who had their 19-pin lead whittled down before Brian Langdown, who scored 65 for Shake Hands, hit a 13-spare in the third leg which they tied before they took the fourth to trail by three pins.

Ahead of the final leg, Shake Hands look set for victory, before Sue Coole, who scored 64 for Slimbridge RBL, commenced with a 12-spare.

John Handley followed this up with an 11-spare leaving Shake Hands requiring 27 to take the game, but they fell agonisingly short.
