BRISTOL CITY Women manager Tanya Oxtoby hopes to have her new side adopting a style of play that excites supporters.

The former Birmingham City assistant made the switch to Bristol this summer and has overseen a large player turnover.

Millie Turner, Chloe Arthur, Lauren Hemp, Aimee Palmer, Jas Matthews and Yana Daniels have left, while Sophie Baggaley, Carla Humphrey, Flo Allen, Poppy Wilson, Frankie Brown, Loren Dykes and Danique Kerkdijk have been recruited.

“It’s definitely been a summer of change at Bristol,” Tanya said.

“There have been players that have left, but we’ve got a lot of girls in who we’re looking at.

“We’re looking to bring in players that want to be a part of the three-year plan and there will be some announcements to come next week.

“Everyone is working hard to ensure we’re ready and have the best squad possible for the start of the season.

“It’s an exciting and amazing opportunity, and in my eyes a perfect time to be joining.

“We want to build a club and a team that fans are proud of, and style of play excites them and that they can get behind.

“The club is in such a positive place at the moment and the players are taking on board what we are asking of them. Exciting times ahead.”

Bristol City struggled with the step-up in quality in the WSL 1 last season, finishing eighth out of twelve with 16 points from 18 games, but Oxtoby is confident they can improve on 2017/18.

She added: “We are very excited about the new season ahead. It is going to be an interesting year with so many player and manager changes in the league.

“From our perspective, we are definitely in a rebuilding phase, and whilst we are under no illusions of the challenge ahead, we are not here to make up the numbers.

“We have a number of internal goals for this year and will be measuring our success based on that”.
