County Cup quarter-final
Thornbury 306-5
Frocester 307-8
Frocester won by two wickets
THORNBURY lost to Frocester in the quarter-finals of the County Cup on Sunday, July 22.
Josh Riggs and Luke Davis were standout performers in the two-wicket defeat, but a slow start in their innings - coupled with Frocester's devastating openers - saw them fall short in the last-eight of the tournament.
Thornbury's innings didn't get off to the best start as Riggs fell without run to his name.
Dan Davis (17) soon followed before a middle order resurgence from Josh Slade (35), Luke Davis (113), D Slade (91) and Sam Summerfield (32*) gave Thornbury a real chance at reaching the semi-finals.
However, Frocester's openers tore through Thornbury's bowlers and ammased more than half the total after only two wickets were lost.
Chris Wincup (71) and Andy Solomons (91) did the most damage and looked to have Frocester on course for victory, but sluggish middle order saw the visitors at 205-6.
That was before Ross Martin (60*) and Matthew Tuck (30*) steered the ship home for Frocester to seal their place in the final four.
Despite the defeat, Riggs (3-30) and Luke Davis (113) deserve a lot of credit for their respective performances.
Unfortunately, Frocester were too strong on the day.
Thornbury next face Biddestone at The Ship Field on Saturday, July 28.
