FOREST Green began the season with an emphatic 4-1 victory against Grimsby Town on Saturday.
Here are the player ratings of all players who were involved.
Robert Sanchez – 6
Rarely tested. Apart from couple of shaky moments coming for catches, he was brave and showed glimpses of his talent. Unlucky with the penalty, went the right way.
Liam Shephard – 6 A solid display at right-back, not exciting but did his job successfully.
Farrend Rawson – 8
Put his body on the line, made some crucial interventions and worked well with Gunning. Mark Cooper was full of praise for him post match.
Gavin Gunning – 8 A hostile reception from the Grimsby fans but he responded well with a commanding display. Won tackles, won headers and also looked good on the ball.
Joseph Mills – 7
Showed some good signs going forward. Has a great left foot on him, fairly solid defensively as well.
Lloyd James – 7
Gave away the penalty but it was arguably slightly harsh. Did get caught in possession once but he has a good range of passing and his cross led to FGR's equaliser.
Reece Brown – 6.5
Kept things ticking in midfield with his quick passing. Fairly quiet, came off after 70 minutes.
Carl Winchester – 7.5
Showed good composure to score his equaliser. A tidy display, showed signs of creativity and he's not afraid to shoot.
George Williams – 6
Worked hard, showed glimpses of his attacking flair. Was replaced on the hour mark.
Reuben Reid – 8
Played a key roll at Blundell Park. He held the ball up well and his link up play was superb. An important player for Forest Green.
Christian Doidge – 9
Clinical as ever. A great header for his first goal and was alert to pounce on the error for his second. Good work rate as well.
Subs
Theo Archibald - 7
Made a real impact when he came on and was a real creative spark. Had to go off with a bloody nose.
Paul Digby - 6
Provided legs in midfield and helped Rovers see out the victory.
