The day before, four intrepid DRC athletes were on the start line of the Cotswold 24 Hours race held in Cirencester.
Mark Sprigings, Pete Dunn Sam Hill and Andrew Eades were flying the flag for DRC this year.
The event started on a beautiful sunny day in Cirencester, over 1000 runners gathered to undertake the challenge
DRC knew that if they were to complete the challenge it would involve running a total of in-excess of 100 miles.
The morning started with the group heading over to Cirencester Parkrun where they were greeted by over a dozen of Dursley club runners to wish them well and two of the relay team members Hill and Dunn completing the parkrun before the race began.
Dunn braved the first leg in temperatures already reaching 30 degrees, Hill took the second, Eades the third and Sprigings the forth completing, the first set of laps of the 5.4 mile course.
The rotation of runners was working smoothly and by 11pm the team had completed 12 laps (64.8 miles).
Eades found another gear during the cooler night shift and produced a blistering lap which served to motivate the team.
Dunn showed incredible resilience to soldier through back-to-back laps between 2am to 5am before having a well-deserved break.
This was followed by another set of back-to-back laps from Hill for the team.
On her return, Eades was raring to go, producing yet another fast time to complete his set of laps and surpassing the 100 miles for the team.
Sprigings brought off the last laps for the team, completing the team’s final mileage tally of 118.8 miles.
A great performance from the whole team finishing in a fantastic 57th place out of 219 teams.
