WET weather meant all four of Chipping Sodbury’s Saturday sides were left frustrated when their matches were abandoned.

The first team, desperate to close the gap on the top three in Division One of the Gloucestershire County League, had reached 216-3 in the 37thover at home to Apperley before declaring.

But the efforts of openers Jake Reed (88*) and Craig Scully (47) along with Jason Thomson (30) proved to be in vain as the weather rolled in and no more play was possible.

Sodbury remain fourth, 11 points behind Corse & Staunton who they travel to on the last Saturday of the season, while they visit Redmarley (fifth) on Saturday and host leaders Poulton on August 25.

Sodbury 2nds, battling to avoid the drop from Division Two, had reached 197-9 away to high-flying Cinderford St Johns when no more play was possible, Richard Wood top scoring with an unbeaten 39.

Sodbury 3rds, meanwhile, were 187-7 at home to Bishopston 3rds in Division Seven of the Bristol & District League when this match had to be abandoned.

Sam Makepeace led the way with a breezy 73 (eight fours, five sixes) while opener Jake Kirkham continued his fine progress this season with 42 at the top of the order.

A full set of wash outs was completed when the rain came down at Bath with Sodbury 4ths on 131-9 after 35 away to Hampsets 3rds in Division 15A.

Opener Neil Barrett dug in for an excellent unbeaten 62 and had a chance of carrying his bat before the weather intervened and had the last word.
