U20 World Cup
England 6-1 Mexico
FIVE DAYS after he 18th birthday, former Bristol City Women's striker Lauren Hemp scored a hat-trick to send England into the quarter-finals of the u20 World Cup.
The Young Lionnesses came from behind to thrash Mexico 6-1 at St Malo, France to book a last-eight place.
England fell behind to a Jacqueline Ovalle goal and were 1-0 down at the break.
They turned things around at the restart, with Alessia Russo levelling and Chloe Kelly giving Mo Marley's side the lead.
Georgia Stanway and a hat-trick from Hemp put Mexico to the sword and sets up a quarter-final clash against Netherlands on Friday, August 17.
Hemp earned herself another Player of the Match award after her three goals in 18 second-half minutes and said the players always believed they could get back into the match.
“We were losing 1-0 but didn’t let that change the way we play," Hemp said.
"We just kept going, kept to our game plan, pushed and pushed and starting getting the goals.
"That’s the good thing about this team – we never give up, no matter what the score is. We just keep on pushing.
