Forest Green Rovers take on Port Vale at the New Lawn hoping to make it three wins in a row.

Rovers recorded their first home win of the season on Tuesday, albeit in the Checkatrade Trophy. It was against bitter rivals Cheltenham Town and the team will go into full of confidence having scored seven goals in two games since Christian Doidge's departure.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of Saturday's clash.

Team News

Mark Cooper has no injury concerns going into the game.

New signing Ben Morris could make his first appearance in the league following his loan move from Ipswich Town.

Port Vale will be without Christian Montano who suffered a knee injury against Newport County last weekend.

Form Guide

Forest Green are still unbeaten in the league and haven't lost within 90 minutes of football this campaign.

They won back to back games for the first time this season and have built some strong momentum.

Port Vale have hit a bit of brick wall having lost their last three league games and are yet to pick up a point away from home.

Opposition

Port Vale look to be facing another battle to stay in League Two.

Manager Neil Aspin took over at Vale Park in October 2017 with the club 23rd in the league. He managed to keep them up, finishing 20th.

Vale have quite a young team but they do possess one of League Two's deadliest strikers in Tom Pope. The forward netted 19 goals in all competitions last season and played a crucial part in Vale's survival.

One of their more eye catching additions was Ricky Miller, who joined from Peterborough. The striker scored 45 goals during the 2016-17 season for Dover. He's only scored twice since but he's a dangerous player who has the ability to cause Rovers problems.

What The Manager's Said:

Mark Cooper: “What I know is we’ve got four or five who played the other night who can help us. We’re going to need our squad, we haven’t had any injuries yet but when that kicks in it’s important that these guys who aren’t in the team just yet might get in the team and stay in the team.

“We’ve had momentum in terms of performances. The other bits, that bit of luck or clinical edge will come but all the games we’ve played at home have been really good performances and it culminated in scoring four the other night.

“This league is unforgiving and any given time you can get turned over, so we have to be on our guard. I saw their game against Newport and I thought they were really unfortunate, they had a blatant penalty for handball turned down. We know they’ll be licking their wounds about it and we’re under no illusions about how tough it will be.

“They have a very potent striker force. I love Tom Pope, he’s an old fashioned centre forward, brilliant in the air while Ricky Miller seemed to score every game when we were in the National League but we have the flexibility and the players will have that decision to make to change and adapt.”

Neil Aspin: “Forest Green have adapted well to being in the football league. They struggled at the start of last season, conceding a lot of goals but they addressed that in January and tightened things up and this season they’ve strengthened and they’ve got a squad capable of doing better and they’re a match for anyone in the league.”

“We’re not getting their in terms of results, I do feel the performance was better. The one change I do want to see is I want to see decisions go in our favour, it’s something that’s got to change."

Previous Meeting:

Saturday, January 6 2018 - Forest Green 1-0 Port Vale - Reuben Reid scored the winner on his Rovers debut at the New Lawn.

SNJ Verdict

Forest Green got an important victory away at Notts County last weekend which was followed by a thumping 4-0 victory over rivals Cheltenham Town in the Checkatrade Trophy. That meant back to back wins for the first time this season and momentum is building with results as well as performances now.

Rovers have finally found their ruthless and clinical side in the last two games and that winning mentality looks to have arrived. They don't appear to be missing Christian Doidge and it was pleasing to see the goals shared across the team.

FGR are due a home win in the league and the game against Port Vale presents the perfect opportunity to bring that. Vale don't travel well and are on a poor run of form so if Rovers can start quickly and get an early goal they could really knock Port Vale's confidence.

Prediction: Forest Green 2-0 Port Vale
