FOR the 21st consecutive year, the Axe Valley Runners club organised the Grizzly multi-terrain race based at Seaton in Devon.

The 19-mile course included sections of shingle beach, steep grassy climbs and descents as well as calf-deep bogs.

The weather varied from warm sunshine to heavy hail adding to the runner's difficulties.

Thornbury running club's Roger Denton 2:37:07 had an outstanding race to finish 13th of 1384 who completed the event.

Next was Dave Palmer 3:44:43 (603rd) then, despite a nasty fall at one point, Judy Mills 3:47:12 (637th), Maddie Parrot 3:49:52 (573rd) in her first Grizzly. Then came Gareth Thomas 3:58:44 (776th), Arthur Renshaw 4:06:36 (861st, John Grimsey 4:11:59 (940th), Graham Bishop 4:34:17 (1115th) and Dave Horsley 4:35:10 (1123rd). Martyn Fletcher 1:47:36 opted for the nine-mile Grizzly Cub' run and finished in 69th position of 247 who competed.

The tarmac surface of the Castle Combe race track made an ideal surface for fast times at the Chilly 10k race.

Phil Lucker 37:33 (8th of 105) had a great run and Joanne Plumbley 45:36 (35th) also took advantage of the good weather and track conditions to record an excellent time.
