Thornbury knocked out of national cup

THORNBURY missed out on reaching the regional final of the ECB Cockspur Cup despite a four-wicket haul from Nick Stovold on Sunday.

After restricting Premier One side Weston-super-Mare to 194 from their 45 overs, Thornbury's batsman collapsed miserably again to give the home side a comfortable 107-run victory.

Weston opener Edd Brown top scored with 56 to give them a good platform but the introduction of Stovold (4-24) swung the game into Thornbury's favour.

However, Stovold was unable to repeat his heroics with the bat as he fell for a golden duck, leaving Thornbury 3-1.

Only his opening partner Kyp Bridgen made a significant contribution with 39, as Richard Trotman's men fell short of their target on 87 all out.

Things were better for Thornbury on Saturday though as they recorded a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Westbury and District in West of England Premier Two.

Westbury fell to 103 all out as captain Richard Trotman did most of the damage with four for 23.

Gloucestershire fast bowler Anthony Ireland also returned to form with three for 14.

Juvaunie Gayle, Stovold, Chris Dent, and Richard Wild were all dismissed, leaving Thornbury on 52 for 4 in reply, but Simon Hinks saw them home with a quick-fire half century.

He struck 54 off just 28 balls, giving Thornbury victory in 17.3 overs.

Thornbury visit Taunton Deane on Saturday.
