THORNBURY Town have signed two new players for their first game of the non-league football season on Friday.

Thornbury make the trip to Bishops Cleeve for an FA Cup extra preliminary clash on Friday night and will be bolstered by two new faces.

Having impressed during pre-season experienced midfielder Luke Garbacz has signed up for the 2023/24 campaign.

Garbacz will add steel and know-how to the Thorns midfield having spent time at Hallen, Tytherington Rocks and Patchway Town. He also featured for Thornbury Town's veterans side last season.

The other new signing is former Forest Green Rovers Academy product Joe McLaughlin.

The 18-year-old moves to Thorns after spending four years at Forest Green where he progressed through their academy to spend two seasons as a full-time scholar.

He bolsters the attacking options in the squad and can operate in a number of different forward positions.

Despite his young age he's already gained senior football experience last season in two non-league loan spells.

He spent time on loan in the Southern League at Slimbridge and also featured for Street in the Toolstation Western Premier League.

Both players will be involved this Friday for the game at Cleeve and will also be the first game of the season in any competition for Thornbury.

They were due to host Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Tuesday night, alongside all the other Hellenic League Premier fixtures, but the game was postponed due to ongoing works on the clubhouse extension at the Mundy's.
