ALMONDSBURY Town finished the Bank Holiday weekend with mixed results which puts them in fifth place in the table at this early stage of the season.
On Saturday they cruised to a 4-0 home victory over Bicester like a well-oiled sewing machine but on Monday, against Fairford Town, they failed to take their chances in the first half and gave away two awful goals in the second.

NEW signing Rich Kerr gave Almonds a dream start when with the game just five minutes old he scored a clever goal after a dummy which left the Bicester keeper sprawled on the floor.
And when Brad Andrews, outstanding on the day, weighed in with two further first-half goals the game was done and dusted at 3-0.
It didn’t stop there, either. Five minutes into the second period Adam Cole made it 4-0 with a far-post header from Danny Haines’ cross, which prompted Almondsbury boss Paul Weeks to bring on the subs including Sahr Kabba, Paul McElvaney and James Crew for an extended run-out to cruise home 4-0 to the delight of the sizeable crowd.

ON the Bank Holiday Monday Almondsbury appeared to be carrying on where they left off the previous game.
Good football was again on show but the chances that were being created were not converted.
And this failure to score came back to haunt Almonds in the second half, which was a different game.
In the words of chairman Bob Jenkins: “They wanted it more than us while we were a bit lethargic.”
Both Fairford goals came from Almondsbury mistakes. The first was a mix-up between Brad Andrews and Adam Gilbert and the second came from a long punt downfield which took one bounce over centre-back John Locke, with the home striker seizing on the error to loft the ball over Almondsbury keeper Ben John and into the net.
“It was an awful goal,” said Jenkins, “In fact they were both awful goals.”
Despite the introduction of the subs, Almonds could make no inroads on the scoreline.
Jenkins observed: “It was disappointing but it is very early yet. We do need to learn, though, not to chase the game all the time. Sometimes you need to put your foot on the ball.”
