DAVID BROWN has been appointed as Forest Green Rovers’ player/assistant manager – confirming Jerry Gill will not return to the club.

Right back Gill arrived at the New Lawn as Jim Harvey’s number two from Cheltenham Town on a loan deal in October last year.

He helped Rovers reach the third round of the FA Cup, where they were beaten 4-3 in a thrilling tie against Derby County, and he also helped them steer clear of relegation from the Blue Square Premier.

Striker Brown, 31, joined Forest Green in January from Barrow and was a major factor in assisting the Blue Square Premier Golden Boot winner Andy Mangan to a season long haul of 26 league goals, with most coming in the second half of the season.

Boss Harvey said: "David will bring not only bring a wealth of playing experience but with his pedigree strong discipline gained over the years at a number of clubs.

"It is vital that the choice of No2 not only needed to fit the style of play I favour but also ensure that we keep to budget during these times."

Meanwhile, winger Les Afful has joined wealthy Southern League Premier Division club Truro City after his contract expired with Forest Green.
