ALMONDSBURY TOWN scored two late goals to upset ten-man Yate and create FA Cup history in a heated derby battle at Lodge Road.

With caretaker boss Jon Haile in charge following Paul Weeks’ departure to Cinderford, Almondsbury reached the Second Qualifying Round for the first time in their history, earning the club £3,000.

Yate took the lead through a quick counter-attack after 36 minutes when Edd Vahid played a neat one-two with Mark Reynolds and slid past Ben John from 15 yards.

Almondsbury were awarded a penalty in the second half as Kane Ingram was tripped by Sam Duggan in the box but stepped up to take the spot kick and sent it horribly wide.

Yate were far from their best against a determined Almondsbury side but looked like holding out until Duggan was shown a second yellow card in a fracas which tipped the balance.

Two ex-Yate players were involved in the 82nd minute equaliser as Paul Chenoweth’s 20-yard shot was tipped away by Lee Matthews and Lee Bridson pounced to score from close range.

Five minutes from time Chenoweth’s inswinging corner was headed in by substitute Matt Williams at the far post.

Almondsbury are at home to AFC Totton in the next round on September 26.
