JASON BURT scored two minutes from time to secure Yate’s passage in the FA Trophy as the club pocketed a useful £2,000 in the process.
Bishop’s Cleeve went into the game on the back of an impressive 3-0 victory over Blue Square South side Weymouth in the FA Cup, but Yate started brighter with Joe White’s long range effort bringing a good save from Tom King.
The on-loan Bristol Rovers striker did give the visitors the lead on 21 minutes though but there was a strong suspicion of offside when he headed in Marc Hughes’ free kick.
In the second half Cleeve striker James Vercesi had a header cleared off the line by Callum Stewart before he headed in an equaliser on 68 minutes.
Yate won it when Burt bundled in his first goal for the club after White broke down the right.
Yate face Bedford at home in the First Qualifying Round on October 17. They picked up four points from their two meetings in the Southern League Premier last season, with manager Dave Mogg recording his first win in charge of the club in the 3-1 victory on March 7.
