MANAGER Richard Thompson has wasted no time in recruiting reinforcements for Almondsbury Town’s promotion push from the Hellenic Premier Division.

Striker Mike Whittington and winger Dave Anyinsah have teamed up with their former Yate Town boss again after joining from Frome Town and Hallen respectively.

Goalkeeper Stuart Jones, whose transfer fees add up to over £50,000 in a Football League career which saw him play for Torquay United and Sheffield Wednesday, has signed as a ready-made replacement for Ben John, who is the subject of a seven-day bid from Minehead.

The versatile Nick Dunn has followed former Cirencester team-mate Chris Williams to Oaklands Park, but winger Kane Ingram has completed his move to Southern League side Paulton Rovers.

Thompson, who took over following Paul Weeks’ departure to Cinderford two weeks ago, said: “The squad was more or less in place, Paul Weeks got that himself over three or four years.

“The difference now is to fine-tune it and if players do go we replace them with Southern League players rather than Hellenic League players so we can continue forward and push on to get promotion.”

Almondsbury have made a bright start under Thompson and he picked up his third win in charge last Saturday in the FA Vase first round clash against Melksham Town.

Paul Chenoweth put Almondsbury ahead on 53 minutes after combining well with Sahr Kabba but Luke Ballinger equalised five minutes later.

Almondsbury regained the lead through Matt Williams on 82 minutes after Kabba broke down the left and Dean Maynard completed the 3-1 win in the 90th minute after he was set up by Adam Cole.

Thompson said: “They played well and kept possession really well. They were nice and patient and bided their time until the goals came along. It was a good job well done.

“I’m still looking at things and chopping it around a bit but everyone who comes in does well and works hard.”

Almondsbury head to Old Woodstock Town on Saturday, aiming to maintain their unbeaten start in the Hellenic League Premier.

Thompson said: “Some of the sides in the Hellenic League are new to when Yate were there so I don’t know anything about them, but it’s more about how we play and what we do.

If we make sure we are right hopefully results will keep going our way.”
