Yate Town boss Dave Mogg reflects on defeats against Gosport and Bridgwater

YATE TOWN manager Dave Mogg is set to delve into the transfer market to boost his side’s play-off chances.

Coming off the back of Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat against Gosport Borough, Yate fell to a second successive league defeat at Bridgwater on Tuesday night which left Mogg with cause for concern.

He said: “There are one or two areas where we need better quality and if those players become available and are in our price range, I’ll try and get them to the club.

“The minimum aim is to try and get in the play-offs.

“I wasn’t pleased with the way we played on Saturday.

“We could have got a draw against Gosport but that would have papered over the cracks and the penalty miss was crucial.

“We played better on Tuesday night but one defensive lapse cost us the game.”

It was a strike by former Mangotsfield United striker Marcus Duharty in the 69th minute that separated the sides at Bridgwater.

The hosts were first to show as a quick move down the left ended with a Duharty effort going just wide.

Debutant Ryan Bath shot over for Yate, while Joe White was thwarted by Bridgwater goalkeeper Tom Manley, who was quick off his line.

Ex-Yate midfielder Matt Beadle brought the best out of Lee Matthews in the Yate goal as he dived to his left to brilliantly keep out a 20-yard thunderbolt.

The goal arrived when Graham Mercieca crossed from the left and Duharty majestically headed home a superb goal giving Matthews no chance.

A rare mistake by the Bridgwater defence then let in Joe White but he blazed the ball high and wide.

In a frantic finale Manley preserved Bridgwater’s lead with an excellent save, diving low to his right, to keep out a shot from Robbins.

Yate face Bedford Town at Lodge Road in the FA Trophy on Saturday (3pm).

Mogg said: “Bedford are in a higher league so are expected to win but there’s a little bit of pressure on us because there’s decent income for progressing.”

Bedford were the opposition for Mogg’s first win as Yate manager in February.

Sam Duggan is expected to be out for around six weeks after it was revealed he fractured a collar bone against Gosport on Saturday. Tom Warren is suspended for the Bedford clash, while Jon McAlindon and Adam White (both dead leg) face late fitness tests.

If Yate avoid a replay with Bedford, they visit Paulton Rovers in the league on Monday (7.45pm).
