FOREST GREEN ROVERS Football Club, the Tortworth Court Hotel and Filton College are part of England’s 2018 World Cup bid.
With Bristol bidding to be one of the host cities should England be successful in landing the host country status, they are required to put together a number of cluster groups, each comprising of a top class hotel, private training facility and a public training and media centre.
Five such clusters are being submitted by the Bristol Bid team and Forest Green are included as a potential venue for the public training and media centre, alongside the Tortworth Court Hotel in South Gloucestershire and Filton College as the private training centre.
The bid will be presented by Bristol to the England Bid team on November 27, with decisions being made on which cities are selected on December 14.
Part of the overall Bristol bid will be based around the new stadium application being considered for Bristol City FC by Bristol City Council next month.
Forest Green spokesman Colin Peake, said: “We met on Tuesday to finalise what the club could offer one of the competing national teams in relation to staging public training sessions and the attendant media involvement.
“Obviously, today was just the first step on a very long journey but it was a necessary one which we needed to take.
“To be selected means fitting and ticking many of the boxes which are required by FIFA but every journey must start somewhere.
“Even if at the end of the day we do not finish up hosting one of the finalists in 2018, it will not be for want of trying.”
