BOSS Dave Mogg is hoping to persuade three players to join Yate Town within the next week.
After watching his side suffer their second three-goal defeat in five days at Bulpit Lane on Saturday when Hungerford ran out 4-1 winners in the Zamaretto League Division One South & West clash, Mogg has wasted no time in trying to improve his squad.
He has made seven-day offers for a “vastly experienced” midfielder, who has represented England at non-league level and can also play at the back, another midfielder currently playing in the Southern League Premier and a striker currently playing in the Western League.
It is unlikely any will feature in Saturday’s league match at home to Cinderford but Mogg is hoping to clinch the deals by the start of next week.
“In no uncertain terms, things have to improve,” admitted Mogg.
“After the last two performances I have question marks over whether I can get more out of the players there, which is down to mine and Grantley’s (Dicks, assistant manager) ability to coach them, or whether I try to work with fresh faces looking to do the job.”
Yate met Hungerford for the third time in a week following the 1-1 draw in the FA Trophy at Lodge Road and the 3-0 defeat in the replay.
Scott Davis gave Hungerford the lead on 13 minutes when he scored from close range following a corner and Russell Benham doubled their advantage two minutes later.
Steven Cook scored from the edge of the area after 30 minutes as Hungerford held a comfortable lead at the break.
Former Team Bath striker Adie Adams scored his first goal for Yate midway through the second half but Cook wrapped things up two minutes from time.
Yate are now without a win in five league games and a defence which looked solid at the start of the season has failed to keep a clean sheet since the start of September, shipping seven goals in the last two games.
They will look to halt their slide against struggling Cinderford Town at Lodge Road on Saturday, (3pm).
Former Yate goalkeeper Paul Weeks is in charge of the Forest side after leaving Almondsbury Town to join them earlier in the season.
However, he has only led them to one victory so far and they are still stuck in the relegation zone after being thumped 8-0 in their last match against Bridgwater Town.
Mogg said: “It’s a great opportunity to pick up points against a team not doing so well.”
Yate will be boosted by the return of midfielder Sam Duggan, who came on for the last 15 minutes against Hungerford, but striker Mark Reynolds is still suspended.
