BOTH sides had opportunities to score but a number of chances were wasted.

Thornbury created a number of early openings but disappointing finishing and ill directed passing played into the visitors’ hands.

The hosts took the lead when a well worked short corner routine resulted in Katie Bridgeman scoring with a well struck shot following a Zoe Barnett pass.

Bethan Brown in goal for Thornbury was regularly in action and made a number of fine saves to gain her side another deserved point.

Amanda Ponting and Becky Jones combined effectively in midfield along with Rachel Gardener and Shelley Beurschgens, and Tracy Jones showed a number of pleasing touches.

Promising youngsters, Charlotte Cockerton and Harriet Macleod chased and foraged all over the pitch and saved their side on a number of occasions with timely tackles.

Helen Smedley and Elaine Dreyton defended soundly and Sarah Newman was her usual combative self.

Thornbury visit Bristol University 2nds on Saturday for another tough encounter

Thornbury found the visitors tougher opposition than their previous week’s opposition.

Sam Anderton was again in fine form for Thornbury and was player of the match for the second week running.

Mel Joseph scored Thornbury’s only goal in the first half.

North Somerset provide the next opposition on Saturday at Castle School (3.30pm).

l Thornbury 3rds found the handicap of not having a goalkeeper too much and were defeated 5-1 at league leaders Axa.
