FOREST GREEN have been dealt a blow in their battle against relegation from the Blue Square Premier division after Chester City were expelled from the league this afternoon.
Member clubs of the Football Conference met this morning with more than the required 75 per cent voting on the decision after the club admitted to breaching five Conference rules.
Chester’s record will be expunged and they will not fulfil any of their remaining fixtures meaning Forest Green will lose the three points gained from their 2-1 victory at the Deva Stadium in September.
Rovers will now be five points adrift of safety instead of three with 14 games to play.
A statement on the Conference website read: "Member clubs of the Football Conference voted in support of the board of directors' recommendation to erase Chester City (2004) FC Ltd from membership in accordance with Article 5.2."
