ROB WEARE won the solo race in the Severn Road Club Open 25 Mile time trial on Sunday.
The Leamington C & AC member finished in 56:33, closely followed by Tom Alliban of Revo cycling in 59:44.
The fastest lady was Jacqueline Wadsworth of the Severn RC in 1:10:28, the fastest junior was Matthew Griffin of Chippenham and District Wheelers, and the fastest veteran (over-50) was Brian Jones of Halesowen CC.
The tandem event was won by the 70+ veterans Peter and Janet Wilson in 1:32:18.
The forecast was for 40mph winds and torrential rain, but on the day the weather gods turned off the rain tap very early on, and the winds were capped at no more than 12mph. The course ran up and down the A38 from Lower Stone up to the Slimbridge roundabout and back, taking in two loops through the village of Wanswell, and was held in conjunction with the South Western Region of the Tricycle Association.
Despite a few who chose to stay at home, an impressive 69 cyclists, seven tricyclists, and one tandem braved the elements.
John Thompson of Severn Road Club in 1:14:32 won the tricycle event. Next was the ‘two up’, where teams of two race together and slipstreaming is allowed.
The riders take turns at the front, where the hard work is done, while the other ‘rests’ in the slipstream, and the time is taken when the second one crosses the finishing line. The winners were Rob Lyne and Peter Georgi of the Giant Cycle Club in a time of 54:48.
