Bristol Rovers fans’ panel by Jeff Bolitho

GASHEADS endured a frustrating afternoon on Saturday as we failed to break down a resolute Tranmere defence.

A drab first half improved after the half time interval, with Rovers more on the front foot trying to find that elusive goal.

A moment of magic was needed to separate the sides but unfortunately for the Pirates it did not materialise.

Credit should go to Tranmere, as they defended resiliently and looked like a side battling for every point as they continue their battle to avoid relegation to League Two.

A point on their travels could prove crucial in their bid to fight the drop, but Rovers will look back on it as another two points dropped in a highly inconsistent season.

Having destroyed Swindon 4-0 in one of the shock results of the year the previous Saturday, confidence couldn’t have been higher going into the Tranmere game but whenever Rovers have threatened a charge towards the play-offs, results have not matched expectations.

So it proved on Saturday when a win would have allowed us to keep pace with Huddersfield and MK Dons, but instead a top six finish once again looks a forlorn hope.

Defensively we looked solid again and Andersen continued his impressive form in goal with a brilliant one-handed save to prevent the afternoon’s scoreline being any worse.

Securing the services of Wolves loanee Daniel Jones for the rest of the season was also welcome news this week, as he has barely put a foot wrong at left-back since his arrival.

The midfield produced adequate performances without really excelling, while Kuffour and Heffernan had quieter games up front and did not often trouble the opposition defence.

The arrival of a new loan striker before next week’s deadline would be a welcome boost as we enter the final run of fixtures.

Hopefully our poor away form was banished at Swindon and a trip to Yeovil on Saturday offers the chance for another three points on the road.

If a new striker can be enticed to the Memorial Stadium and we can perform more consistently, then the end of the season could yet have an exciting climax.
