HOGWEED TROTTER Dave Wintle has achieved a rare feat by completing ten marathons in ten consecutive days.

The Chipping Sodbury-based runner took part in the Brathay Challenge last week and finished an impressive second overall, recording ten consistent times of between 3hrs:22mins and 3:28 each.

All these marathons were held over a hilly terrain course in the Lake District with 11 runners taking part to raise money for charity.

Wintle, who ran over 1,000 miles this year as part of his training, said: “I like to train and push myself, I run about ten marathons a year but I wanted something more of a challenge.

“It was not only a physical challenge but a mental challenge as well.

“I had some good training plans and it all went to plan.”

Wintle admitted there were difficult times when he felt he didn’t want to be there, but has not ruled out the possibility of doing it again.

He said: “When you finish you say never again but in a couple of months I might say ‘perhaps’.

“There were some days where I felt fed up and was not in the mood for another marathon, but you push those thoughts aside and there is good camaraderie with the other runners so everyone helps each other.”

Wintle has been running for eight years and has now completed 45 marathons and 31 half marathons.

Brathay is a charity that works to support children and young people nationwide.
