WEPL Premier Two: Knowle (206-1) beat Thornbury (205) by nine wickets

Thornbury suffered a thrashing at the hands of Knowle.

Batting first, Richard Trotman’s side made a decent start with Nick Willis-Stovold scoring 34 and Greg Stephens hitting 38.

However, no batsman went onto get a big score and they were bowled out after 50 overs.

An opening stand of 155 between Matthew Wilson (60*) and Steve Milton (87) sent Knowle romping towards victory before the latter was finally caught by Hamish Reeves off Ian Blakemore.

Richie Ricketts hit 26 not out as Knowle wrapped up victory in the 31st over.

Thornbury hope to bounce back from two defeats in a row when they host Downend on Saturday.

Premier Two 2nd XI Thornbury (354-3) beat Glastonbury (130) by 214 runs

The glorious weather over the weekend matched the entertainment value as Thornbury went on the rampage against Glastonbury.

Glasto skipper Pete Dickens surprisingly decided to bowl first.

Thornbury openers Mark Stutter and Paul Holder got the innings off to a solid start.

Holder (23) then missed a straight one and was bowled.

Will Ireland and Stutter put the inexperienced Glastonbury bowling to the sword. On the verge of his ton, Stutter played a slightly nervous shot and was caught at cover for an excellent 98, ending an 108-run partnership.

Thornbury captain David Hammond (40) maintained the momentum with Ireland in another 100-run partnership before he was caught on the boundary.

Ireland reached his maiden century for Thornbury and finally left the field with a magnificent 131 not out to his name, with Jerry Westwood scoring a rapid 31 not out.

The total of 354-3 in 45 overs is the highest the Ship Ground has seen for many years.

After the break, James Tunnicliffe got the ball rolling when Tom Brock (4) was well caught by Westwood and he then clean bowled Jack Moore (10).

The run rate dried up completely as Andrew White decimated the Glastonbury middle order.

In a superb spell of left arm spin bowling he returned figures of 13-3-24-5.

Dan Botha accounted for Kate Randall and then Greg Mallitte got his reward by clean bowling Tom Taylor and concluding a huge victory for Thornbury, who maintained their 100 per cent record.
