YATE Town have signed defender Tom Kington ahead of their trip to Zamaretto Division One South & West new boys Bideford tomorrow.

The former Tiverton Town man arrives as cover for Jon McAlinden, who is set to move to Germany for three months for work but could come back to play at weekends.

Striker Mark Reynolds is hoping to return from an ankle injury as Yate look to bounce back from their reverse at league leaders Abingdon last week.

Town shaded the first half, although Abingdon looked dangerous on the break, and forced Josh Dempsey into making a couple of good saves in their sporadic attacks.

It was no surprise, however, when Yate took the lead in the third minute of time added on at the end of the period. Chris Lewis broke down the right, and his cross was headed powerfully into the net by Russ Church.

Abingdon gradually took control of the match thereafter, and it was no surprise when they equalised after 64 minutes.

A long throw was headed on by Jon McMahon and Andrew Younie hammered the loose ball into the net.

Abingdon took the lead on 80 minutes when a clearance fell to Tom Melledew, whose low shot from 30 yards was deflected past Dempsey.

Five minutes later Abingdon made the game safe when Steve Davis scored from close range after the Yate defence delayed clearing the ball.

Yate entertain Gosport Borough at Lodge Road on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).
