Wotton answered their critics on Saturday when they posted a 5-1 win over bottom of the league side East Glos, notable for a goal on senior debut by Eilidh Rogers.

Emma Robertson opened the scoring after five minutes with a smartly executed penalty corner and Myra Patterson made it two at another penalty corner ten minutes later. Sharply intercepting the keeper’s clearance, Hayley Perrett returned it with interest and pushed the score on to 3-0. East Glos were not outclassed and came back towards the close of the first half collecting their consolation goal after a succession of penalty corners of their own.

After the break Wotton were on top again and Roberston bagged her second and Rogers completed the scoreline with a push in at the far post. There were a good number of other close chances on goal that showed Wotton meant business.

With a couple of regulars absent and a number of younger members elevated to the team it was clear that Wotton were more thoughtful as they used their less experienced players. This helped them to focus on passing and outmanoeuvring their opposition. Rogers, Lottie Aldridge, Lucy Waite and Emma Chalmers put in impressive performances, and it was clear that the penalty corner routine had sharpened up, with three out of eight corners being converted, a statistic that will be noted in the post-match analysis.
