HATTIE Dent has been named Yate and District’s under-17 athlete of the year at the club’s annual awards ceremony.

The 16-year-old from Cam competed in the 300 metres hurdles for the first time this season with great success.

Rednock School pupil Dent won gold at the South West Championships, broke a 13 year club record for the discipline and ended the season as the number one 300m hurdler in Gloucestershire.

However, her biggest and proudest achievement was being selected by Gloucestershire to compete in the English schools Championship in Gateshead.

Her goal for next season is to be re-selected for the competition and aim for England selection.
