ANDY Sandell is taking a break from full-time football after his short spell at Forest Green failed to work out.

The former Rovers youth team winger returned to the New Lawn last month on a three-month loan from Wycombe Wanderers, but he made just three appearances in his preferred striking role. He said he had “fallen out of love” with the game during his time at Wanderers, but his brief spell at Rovers proved equally frustrating.

He has now joined Evo-Stick Southern League part-timers Chippenham Town after Wycombe terminated his contract by mutual consent last week after playing 50 times for the club.

Sandell said he was fed up of playing left-back and was deployed in a more advanced position in his brief spell with Forest Green.

But the free-kick specialist, who netted seven times for Blues last season, never settled at Rovers.

He said: “Their style of play doesn’t suit me. I spoke to the manager David Hockaday about it and he agreed to cut the loan short and I went back to Wycombe.”

After a week break, Forest Green will be searching for their fourth league win on the bounce when they travel to Braintree Town on Saturday (3pm).

Rovers suffered their first defeat of the season when they met Braintree at the New Lawn in August.

The Blue Square Premier new boys have been one of the surprise packages of the season and lie in ninth place, four places and four points better off than Forest Green.
