TERRY Stevenson has been given the task of saving Dursley Town’s Northern Senior One status after replacing Andy Smith as first-team manager.
Former Berkeley boss Stevenson takes over with Town second-from-bottom of the table with eight points from 16 games, but still with every chance of avoiding relegation.
Dursley have won just once in the league this season - a 3-0 home victory over fellow-strugglers Stroud FC on November 12 in the last game Stevenson featured in the team as a player.
Martin Booth, who along with Chris Curtis is set to assist the new boss, will pick the team to face Stonehouse at the Rec on Saturday with Stevenson taking a watching brief.
Hit by unavailability and departures, Smith fielded an inexperienced side in his last game in charge at Lydbrook, but they stood up well to a difficult test to take a goalless draw.
Booth turned in a composed display in the unfamiliar role of sweeper, while goalkeeper Pete Dykes made several crucial stops as the visitors earned a point.
Town chairman Neil Sharp said: “In the circumstances, the players showed superb commitment, dug in and got a good result.”
Dursley: P Dykes; A Forgione, M Booth, D McNally; C Dummelow, C Bailey, J Stevenson, L Peters, C Mills (J Stoneman 75); Aaron Nash, M Festa.
