FOREST Green star Al Bangura is urging fans to donate old shirts to help the Sierra Leone Single Leg Amputee Sports Association.

The Sierrra Leone international has teamed up with his club to run a shirt exchange in February, offering 20% off new home shirts when fans exchange an old strip - which will be donated to the charity.

Bangura was born and brought up in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and is notable for having been the victim of human trafficking when he was a teenager and also the subject of a deportation case in the United Kingdom in 2007.

Bangura said: "I saw what the war did to people in Sierra Leone. The fighters would come looking for young boys and make them become soldiers.

"You would then see them come back into the city - many people were hurt and injured. If you didn't want to be involved it was hard to stay."

The Sierra Leone Single Leg Amputee Sports Association (SLASA) which has 300 members - mainly injured during the decade-long Sierra Leone civil war that ended in 2002, leaving over 50,000 dead.

Banguar added: "Most for the amputee's were injured because of the war, so I would encourage Forest green fans to donate their old shirts to the charity."

Supporters will be able to exchange an old adult first team shirt at The New Lawn reception during February and purchase a new FGR shirt at 20% off - during the week or before home fixtures against Wrexham on Saturday, Braintree Town on Tuesday, February 12, Dartford on the 16th and Kidderminster on the 19th.
