SLIMBRIDGE’S goal drought continued as they were knocked out of the Floodlit Cup by Ardley United.

Leon Sterling’s side have now gone four games without finding the net, and they have played 379 minutes since Stuart Gates scored their last goal from the penalty spot in the 2-1 win at Thame United on January 5.

Goals from Joe Eyre, Steve Hawkins and Troy Bryan saw Ardley through to the last four and condemned Slimbridge to their fourth defeat in a row.

Their Hellenic League Premier Division game at home to Highworth Town last Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, and they have now slipped down to fourth in the table to trail runaway league leaders Marlow by 14 points.

Slimbridge visit Abingdon Town on Saturday and take on Shrivenham at Wisloe Road on Tuesday (7.45pm).
