Stroud & District Table Tennis League round-up
8:00am Saturday 9th February 2013 in Gloucestershire Sport
CAM & DURSLEY’S two sides squared up in Division Three and the A side went home the victors by 7-3 after all their players scored two each before taking a well fought five set doubles for the final point.
Robbie Hawkins was the star for the B side, winning all his games and keeping his side in the match.
Thornbury C visited Woodchester D and with the help of a full house from Mike Rose were able to come away with a creditable 5-5 draw. Len Pattison and Tracy Dibble added another each to their score but they were pegged back by the home side.
Sheepscombe entertained Frampton C, who found the home side’s Bruce Ind and Will Tarran too hot to handle with both players unbeaten. One point each for the Frampton players ensured some valuable points, but they were unable to prevent Sheepscombe taking the doubles and a 7-3 victory.
Nailsworth Phoenix D plough relentlessly on at the head of the Division Four table, this time winning 10-0 at the expense of Cam & Dursley C. Frampton D picked up a much need win against Forest Green D. Glan Watkins was in fine form, taking a maximum, ably assisted by Pete Seville and Chris Philp adding three more. Richard Wright, with two, and Mike King, with one, had kept Forest Green in the match but went down to an epic five set doubles giving Frampton the 7-3 match win.
In Division One, Yate were beaten 6-4 by Forest Green A, despite a maximum by Andy Cox against Dave Adamson, Alan Giles and Suzi Robinson. Keith Sheppard then partnered Cox, who recorded an excellent doubles performance and victory over the formidable FG pairing of Adamson and Alan Giles.
Woodchester B returned a 7-3 victory over Frampton A. Tony Clarkson and Bill Dawe both scored maximums which returns Woodchester to a tie with Yate for third place in the table. Second-placed Nailsworth Phoenix B were held to a 5-5 draw by Pessimists in Division Two,.
Phoenix’s hard hitter Kevin Pride was best on the night with a maximum. Tim Chancellor was the top performer for Pessimists with two points, while Barry Morgan and Sue Bailey added a point each, plus the doubles, to tie the match for an excellent result. Frampton B scored an 8-2 victory over two-man Randwick A.
Dave Pearce and Carol Philp were both unbeaten, whilst Alan Perratt was beaten by Randwick’s Mark Edwards and John Smee.
