Daily Mail U15 Vase Quarter-Final: KLB 5 Felsted 27
12:00pm Friday 15th February 2013 in Gloucestershire Sport
THE Twickenham dream is over for Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School after the Year 10 side were knocked out of the national competition by Felsted.
After their thrilling victory the previous Friday in Truro, KLB were looking for a good start to put them on the front foot in the game.
However, Felsted had other plans and dominated possession in the first ten minutes. Excellent defence from KLB kept out the Essex side but the home team could not get enough time with the ball to make any significant headway into Felsted territory. Eventually a well constructed move lead to the game’s first try as Felsted powered over for a five point lead which remained the score at half time.
Felsted continued their pressure in the second half, with the wet conditions and heavy ground taking their toll on the KLB defence and they went further ahead with a penalty.
Eventually Felsted created space on the left wing and two converted tries in quick succession effectively ended KLB’s hopes ten minutes into the half. A brief fightback by KLB led to a try for Tom Freer and, for a moment, it looked like the Gloucestershire side would come back into the game.
However, Felsted scored their fourth try to wrap up the win.
KLB continued to fight hard to the end, never giving in and always trying to play their running game in increasingly difficult conditions.
Head of PE, Rich Daniel, said: “This has been a great experience for our Year 10s. “They have played some very good rugby against a host of good teams to reach the quarter-final and I and the whole school are very proud of their efforts and achievement. “However, Felsted are an excellent side and outplayed and out thought us on the day. “We wish them luck in the semi final and reflect on another very successful rugby season at KLB.”
