TOCKINGTON Manor School won team gold in the under-11 boys section of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League.

The under-11 girls’ team also enjoyed success, securing bronze at the final run at Plock Court in Gloucester.

After performing very well in the previous three meetings, they received the medals after an excellent team effort.

The leading names were Tockington-based Alex Grocott, who was second overall, and Thornbury-based Max Curtis, who was third overall.

The girls were led home by Iron Acton-based nine-year-old Jessie Sanzo who, has two years left in this age group. She finished eighth in the final race. This represents a fabulous achievement for this small South Gloucestershire School.

Indeed all the other teams were athletic clubs including Cheltenham Harriers, Westbury Harriers and Bath Athletic Club.

The children, from Year 3 to Year 8, have a weekly cross country run on Thursdays and compete to achieve their own personal bests from September to March; many of the staff run too.
