Bristol City fans' panel: Reaction to Championship defeats against Cardiff and Crystal Palace
12:00pm Friday 22nd February 2013 in Gloucestershire Sport By Will Collins
TWO defeats on the road has plunged City deeper into The Championship relegation zone.
A 2-1 loss in the Severnside derby against Cardiff was followed up by another 2-1 loss, this time at Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.
In both games it has to be said that City looked well off the pace against two sides chasing promotion to the Premier League. It has been a worry that since O’Driscoll has come in we have lost every single one of our four away games and have posed very little attacking threat in front of goal in all these games. Both our goals at Cardiff and Palace were late own goals. The reality is that these two teams were just far better than us.
O’Driscoll’s time in charge has not been helped by a succession of injuries to key players, however we now lie bottom of the league table, six points adrift of safety. With just 13 games left it is vital the players and management put this week’s setbacks behind us and get back to winning ways on Saturday in what is a big ‘six-pointer’ against Barnsley at Ashton Gate.
Barnsley have been flying of late, winning their last five matches which has helped haul them temporarily out of The Championship drop zone. They looked dead and buried a few weeks ago and it shows what putting a good run together can do for your survival chances. This is exactly what we need to achieve and three points on Saturday would be a perfect way to begin The Great Escape.
