CRAIG KIESWETTER once again proved to be Gloucestershire’s nemesis as Somerset claimed the local bragging rights in the Yorkshire Bank 40 clash at Taunton to take charge of Group C.
Despite captain Michael Klinger hitting 131 not out in Gloucestershire’s 263-8, Kieswetter hit an unbeaten century of his own to lead Somerset home with seven wickets and 39 balls to spare.
The England international followed up scores of 89 not out and 61 in Somerset’s crushing Friends Life t20 wins against their neighbours with another destructive display, hitting 126 not out off 97 balls.
Kieswetter shared stands of 87 with Marcus Trescothick (39), 95 with Peter Trego (59) and an unbroken 65 with Nick Compton (22*) as Gloucestershire’s bowlers toiled, with part-time spinner Chris Dent claiming the best figures of 1-31 from eight overs.
Klinger also batted throughout Gloucestershire’s innings, and found support from Chris Dent (32) and Alex Gidman (19) – both in 71-run stands – but it was not enough.
Gloucestershire are at home to Leicestershire on Tuesday (1.45pm).
