Davis Wood Hockey League De Cymru & Marches Division One: Wotton-under-Edge 1 Penarth 4
8:00pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in Gloucestershire Sport
WOTTON started well against bogey team Penarth, a side whom they have never beaten, and dominated the first half, taking the lead with a Ryan Howarth penalty corner.
James Wells-French kept Wotton in it after the break with some superb saves, but even he couldn’t stop Penarth taking the lead and adding more goals.
The second half was also a bad-tempered affair, with numerous trips to the sin bin by both sides, and the game ended with nine players from each side on the pitch.
Wotton will need to bounce back quickly when they travel to Hereford this weekend.

FACED with a lengthening list of injuries and absences to cope with, Wotton will be pleased that this unfamiliar-looking team did well enough to come away from their first league game with a point.
In-form striker Harry Willcox gave Wotton the lead from a well-converted penalty corner in a game with few clear cut-chances for either side.
Wotton welcomed back Leo Murray-Davey to the defensive line, while Andy Edwards impressed in the centre of midfield in his Wotton debut.
Some poor marking led to Swindon’s equaliser but in the end a draw was a fair result.

WOTTON suffered a collective loss of basic skills in the face of a well-organised Gloucester team.
The home team frequently had two or more unmarked forwards in the Blues’ D and only wayward shooting kept the half-time deficit to 3-0.
Wotton played with more pride in the second half.
A much tighter defence conceded just one further goal from open play but Gloucester added two more through ruthlessly converted penalty corners.
