Dursley 3 Redland UWE 2

THIS was a well earned victory for a young Dursley team still a little short of experience but having great enthusiasm and skills.

Dursley started well with good attacking moves from Ellie Towler and Zoe Balfour and strong defending from Emily Campbell and Kayleigh Brooks.

It was Balfour who put the home team in front from close range and also forced several good saves from the Redland keeper.

Slack defending gave Redland the chance to make the half-time score 1–1.

The visitors had an early second half chance well saved by Dursley’s stand-in keeper and captain Claire Fagan.

Alice Clark made a strong run down the right and a powerful shot by Towler was well saved before she put Dursley back into the lead with a solo run and shot. Dora Meredith seemed to have made the game safe when she stole into the D and calmly put a cross from the right past the visiting keeper for her first league goal.

A Redland long shot which took a deflection before creeping past Fagan made sure of an anxious last ten minutes but Dursley held on for maximum points. Vicky Moulder, Stacey and Leanne Smith, and Ayley Moir were excellent in the Dursley defence which coped well with a strong Redland attack.
