ROVERS finally gave their fans at the Memorial Stadium something to cheer about on Saturday with their first home win in three months.

The resounding 3-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon had been a long time coming but was delivered in style.

Clarkson showed the attacking intent of the team with a well taken strike before 20 minutes of the first half had elapsed.

The Scot has undoubted ability as he showed when creating the space from which he scored the opener.

A place needs to be found in the team for him as a foil for the main striker, where he can slot passes through and find the net himself.

Parkes got in on the act before the half was up with a powerful header. Rovers need to capitalise more on set pieces if we are to finish off opponents and our young captain demonstrated what we should do more of as we powered into an unassailable advantage.

We have seen Gas teams crumble at this stage, as an early goal for the opposition in the second half would have led to a nerve-wracking spell to test our defensive resolve.

However, the spirit and determination shown in recent games ensured there was to be no collapse and the players successfully eliminated any threat posed by a dogged Dons side.

We played with tempo and desire, qualities which are essential for any team to thrive in the cut and thrust of League Two, qualities we wish we had seen more often throughout the campaign up to now.

Harrold finished off the convincing win and capped a fine display with a penalty in the closing minutes.

The win still left Rovers third from bottom, two points off the relegation places, showing what a vital victory it was.

Hopefully the team will continue this momentum in the crucial fixtures ahead as we strive to climb away from danger.

This weekend, however, attention turns to the FA Cup as the Pirates aim to clinch a place in the Third Round by beating Crawley at the Mem on Saturday.
