Cam Bulldogs 1 Sharpness 2

SHARPNESS shocked league leaders Cam Bulldogs by ending their run of six wins in a row in a fast-paced local derby on Saturday.

Adam Philp gave the home side the lead in the 20th minute but the Sharks showed plenty of character and equalised before the break through Scott Bennett.

In the second half both sides went out for a winner and it went to Sharpness when a Marley Thomas corner was headed on by Andy Webber for Ian Watkins to nod home at the far post.

Thomas missed two more good chances to give Sharpness a bigger cushion but it didn’t cost them as their back four stood up to the task to run out worthy winners.

It was just Cam’s second defeat of the season, but they remain top of the table.

Manager Simon Penny said: “Sharpness were more up for the game, took us by surprise and we couldn’t cope with it.

“We had a couple of players missing but that’s no excuse. We couldn’t raise our game. They battled a lot better than us and deserved their win.”

Sharpness entertain Brockworth at the Power Station on Saturday (2pm), while Cam visit Stonehouse before hosting Hardwicke in the Stroud Charity Cup on Sunday.
