BERKELEY-BASED cyclist Pfeiffer Georgi made an impressive start to the 2014 season, winning Saturday’s first round of the Icebreaker Series of Youth Track Races at Newport International Velodrome.

Riding in the under-14 girls’ category, the races are run in an Olympic Omnium format.

The 13-year-old Castle School student, racing for Giant CC Halo Films, took fourth place in the 4km scratch race, won the next 'devil take the hindmost' race, where the last rider is eliminated each lap, and came second in the final 6km points race to take a highly deserved overall win.

Brother, Etienne Georgi, exhibited his endurance and tactical riding with two second places in his devil and 8km points races.

On both occasions, the 14-year-old Castle School student was second to fellow Olympic Talent Team member, Rhys Britton.

For Etienne, the Icebreaker event formed part of one of a number British Cycling Talent Team camps, which saw the riders back at the velodrome on Sunday for an early morning four-hour team pursuit training session.
