Marling 3 KLB 4

MATT GOSLING scored twice to give KLB School a winning start to their defence of the GSFA U18 Cup.

Marling School and KLB managed to find a break in the weather to play their first round match on a sticky but playable pitch in Stroud.

KLB started brightly and a well-planned move gave debutant Dane Shine the opening goal as he met a Charlie Read cross with a hooked finish at the far post. Marling worked their way back into the match and scored a deserved equaliser from a neat through pass that was fired in the KLB goal.

Charlie Read renewed KLB’s lead in the 50th minute with a cut in from the left followed by a sharp strike.

Gosling then drilled a super strike from 25 yards to give KLB a 3-1 lead before Marling replied on 63 minutes with another direct move finished in style by Marling’s centre forward.

Gosling then converted a penalty after Edd Pitt was fouled in the opposition area to take KLB to 4-2.

Marling fought back again and a bobbling ball eluded the KLB keeper and was driven into an empty net.

KLB, with captain Archie Bennett leading by example, survived a tough last few minutes to get through to the next round.

KLB manager Mike Mewse said: “Marling were tenacious and made us work very hard. We weren’t at our best but all the players dug deep and deserved the result”.
