Western League Premier Division

Odd Down 1 Slimbridge 2

SLIMBRIDGE chalked up their second away victory in four days with a superb result at eighth-placed Odd Down.

The result lifts Slimbridge out of the bottom six of the Western Premier League, and means that they are now looking upward rather than down as the season begins to play out.

Jamie Martin and Jack Twyman got the crucial goals, and despite Odd Down pulling a late goal back, the Swans held on for a memorable triumph.

On a pitch that was in excellent condition given the recent weather, the Swans made a good start, but it was the home side who went closest early on, Adnan Hiroli heading just wide from Mike Baker's corner after eight minutes.

The visitors retaliated, and and Paul Fahy again went close when he got on the end Mace's deep cross, but his shot went wide with 18 minutes on the clock.

After half an hour, Slimbridge went close again when Adam Mace was fouled on the edge of the Odd Down box, but Danny Chandler's free kick just failed to reach Jack Rutter at the far post.

With Saturday's man of The match Ben Tunnicliffe again looking impressive at the back, it was turning into an intriguing encounter played at a very fast pace.

As the first half drew to a close, Swans keeper Scott Gearon, in for the absent Dave Evans, made two great stops – firstly from Lee Brunsdon, and then Ben Hunt, to keep the scores level.

With the home team on top, Hiroli sliced a good chance wide, while Gearon again made another impressive stop, this time from Dwaine Plummer to leave the game scoreless at the half.

The Swans took the lead early in the second half, when Martin, playing his last game before starting a five-match ban, converted a great cross with a first time strike on 47 minutes.

The Swans came under cosh, with boss Leon Sterling leading the resistance.

Gearon made another superb stop from a free kick, before the Swans went up the other end and doubled their advantage.

Martin crossed the ball to Twyman, who slammed in his second goal in four games to put the Swans in control.

An 89th minute header from Kye Simpson reduced the deficit for Odd Down, but Slimbridge hung on for a crucial win, that lifts them towards mid-table.
