Bristol City fan's column: Good balance in back three against Swindon Town

Gazette Series: Bristol City FC Bristol City FC

CITY kept their first clean sheet since Boxing Day but couldn’t score at the other end, as last Saturday’s game against local rivals Swindon Town ended goalless.

Outs failure to score certainly wasn’t through lack of trying as we were on top for large spells of the game.

A turning point was undoubtedly the sending off of Swindon’s Alex Pritchard on 55 minutes, which forced the away side to go into their shell.

From here on in City struggled to break them down with a lack of width on the pitch.

That said, we did have a couple of good chances but were not clinical enough in front of goal.

The clean sheet was very pleasing however, and I liked the balance we had at the back on Saturday, playing a back three of Osborne, on-loan Nosworthy and Williams.

Nosworthy joined the club shortly before Saturday’s game on loan from Watford and Cotterill may well extend his loan deal until the end of the season following the news that Flint will miss the rest of the campaign through injury.

He is an experienced player having turned out in the Premier League for Sunderland.

City also signed Martin Paterson on loan from Huddersfield Town and he is a nippy, skilful striker that I have always rated.

He looked lively in the 20 minutes he was on the pitch Saturday.

City seem to be moving towards safety after a decent run of results and this coming week presents another couple of good opportunities to pick up points.

Firstly, City travel to fellow strugglers Colchester United on Saturday (3pm) before hosting Port Vale at Ashton Gate next Tuesday (7.45pm).

A return of four points from these two fixtures would keep our run of good form going and bring us close to the 50 point mark, which is likely to be enough to survive.
