Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One

Cam 2 Lydbrook 1

WHAT should have been an easy victory for Cam against a team fighting relegation was anything but.

The game burst into life in the 10th minute when a long ball over the top caught Cam out and in trying to catch Lydbrook's striker Chris Lindsay hauled him down in the box for a penalty and was shown a straight red card. The spot kick was converted.

For the rest of the half you wouldn't have known Cam were a man short as they more than matched Lydbrook.

Aaron Nash had a great chance to level but the visiting keeper pulled off a great save and Callum Dummelow saw his 30-yard half volley rattle back off the bar to safety.

The second half was much the same with Cam pushing for an equaliser, which came when Aaron Booth made a jinking run past three defenders before the fourth upended him in the box for a penalty. Up stepped Adam Philp to smash in.

Cam carried on pushing for the winner and Philp came good again ten minutes from the end. After a ball was played into him 20 yards out, he turned his man with ease and struck a powerful low shot into the bottom corner for the winner and his 15th goal in 15 starts for Cam this season.

Despite playing 80 minutes with only ten men, Cam were the better side for long spells.

Cam: Ben Jagger, Joe Iatalese, Max Pemberton, Rob Stringer, Sean Bailey, Callum Dummelow, Luke Morrissey, Aaron Nash, Aaron Booth, Adam Philp.
