Wotton Reserves 2 Tetbury Reserves 1

WOTTON Rovers Reserves finally recorded their first win of the season against local rivals Tetbury Town.

The hosts started brightly with Jamie McCuaig in menacing mood, causing the Tetbury defence problems with his pace and tenacity.

Against the run of play Tetbury took the lead on 20 minutes with a shot fired in at Robbie West's near post.

Chances were few and far between but Mike Thompson's troops went into the half-time break full of belief.

An injury to Danny Tomlin meant Wotton made an enforced change with Stuart Eldridge coming on and a switch in formation meant Clint Hopkins and Owain Clement grabbed control of the midfield battleground, whilst the defence of Thompson, Mark Jenkins, Rich Weston and 16-year-old skipper Rossy Diment stood firm and showed their never-say-die attitude.

Then came Wotton's deserved equaliser. Neat footwork in the box from McCuaig saw the Scotsman control the ball with his left foot, then fire home into the bottom right corner of the net to liven a slightly frustrated Synwell crowd.

Wotton then gained belief and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck with Tom Bladon and Eldridge providing width and pace.

From a corner, Diment rose like a salmon to out-jump the Tetbury keeper and nod home the winner.

Wotton stood firm to hang on to a morale-boosting victory after a long but very committed season.
